People have learnt from mistakes and experiences. It is ridiculous when it is not my first time flight but I make it damn. Most of the time when I travel, I rarely take direct flight from Phnom Penh because it is more expensive than, when I catch flight from other destinations like HCM or BKK. As I have written in the one article [Travel on super tight budget] if you change the original destination you could save up to 100USD sometimes, then why not. I always make the calculation time on where to where, traffic jam, border checking, one hour before for the local check in and two hours for the international flight. I never make the mistakes for that, but one time happens when I flew to Hanoi with Jet star airline. My original destination is from Ho Chi Minh so I had to catch bus from Cambodia for 6 hours, I supposed to reach there at 12 o’clock noon time, and my flight was about at 3.30pm. So I thought that would be fine for the local flight one hour before. But what we thoughts was not like god’s thought I was stuck in the middle way because it was the holidays people just went crazy to get out from Cambodia for their vacations. The bus couldn’t move, tons of people were walking and waiting for the ferry transporting. I couldn’t wait anymore so I decided to get off the bus and walk to the ferry by foots. I had to pay for the extra transportation fee when the first bus couldn’t move and I couldn’t wait. I already tried my best to catch taxi through to the airport. Unfortunately, I still missed the flight in just 30 minutes after I showed up to the airport, the airline staff just say sorry girl. I tried to explain them about my situation in half an hour then they free me the ticket to Hanoi, I was so excited when they treated me like this even it was my fault. Don’t underestimate the accidental cases you never know, people say: we don’t afraid of [ten thousand cases but we afraid of just in case] through this I have learnt a lot that I shouldn’t take the flight at the same day of my arriving origin destination flight. And causes from the late flight will affect to the whole first schedule of my traveling itinerary. Still yet when I got back from Guangxi-China I missed the flight again oh god just a week I missed it twice, unbelievable……………… I just stayed calm with sound of silent and paid for the new ticket, it’s all what I can do. I don’t have any reasons to convince the airline anymore, just accepted and cleaned all what I had messed. It was not fun when you have to pay 120USD for the new ticket since you got it only 60USD for the first booking. From my poor arrangement and management here, I keep these in mind and remind me all the time, first time is experience, second time is lesson to learn but if it happens for the third [You are dummy]
Tips:
– Go to the airport one hour before the local flight, two hours for the international flight.
-Never take flight at the same day of your arriving day to the original destination.
-No distraction from the duty free.
-Arrive to the airport early is the most safe ever.
-Try to deal with the airline if they can understand your situations.
-Watch out the distance from town to the airport, to avoid wrong calculation.
-Better to know detail about the local jam in the country you will visit.
Once you have learnt it don’t repeat it. Traveling is always the best school when nowhere else teaches you.
